Dom Rafael is sourced from old vines of Aragones, Trincadeira - regional grape varieties - and Alicante Bouschet on the estate.
The grapes are delivered into large open stone lagares where they are foot troden, then lightly pressed in century old wooden baskets. The wine is then run off into oak barrels where it matures for 12 months. Once bottled it is matured for a further 6 months before release.
Dark ruby in colour with notes of plum jam, spice and dark chocolate sweetness. This is a full bodied wine with elegant hints of oak, that shows structure and a long finish. Ready to drink but will keep well for 3+ years. Great with hearty fish or vegetable casseroles, and meat dishes.
